With the financial support of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Czech School Inspectorate, we are organizing an extensive panel investigation, the first of its kind and scope; no research has yet been carried out in the Czech Republic that would map in detail the school environment's influence on adolescents' attitudes.
The project aims to investigate the relationship between education and the formation of attitudes. We are posing crucial questions regarding possible changes in pupils' attitudes during their high school studies and the potential role of the school they attend, with whom they share the classroom environment.
The project's main topics are cognitive knowledge, well-being, sense of belonging, relationships with classmates and teachers, attitude towards otherness, and family background of adolescents.
CZEPS: Insights from Three Waves of Nationwide Student Data
During the fall of the 2024/25 school year, the third wave of data collection was conducted among students in their third year of high school. This phase followed two highly successful previous waves—the first of which saw participation from 249 schools and more than 24,000 students across the Czech Republic. High schools were selected for the research through simple random sampling.
The large sample size, diverse representation of study fields and schools from all Czech regions, and the study's longitudinal design make this research unique within the Czech context.
By repeatedly surveying the same students throughout their studies, we can analyze the mechanisms and contexts behind the development of attitudes, behaviors, and relationships among Czech youth. One final wave of data collection remains to be completed.

JUNIOR STAR grants are intended for excellent scientists in their early careers shortly after receiving their PhDs who have published in prestigious international journals and have had substantial experience abroad. The 5-year project allows them to attain scientific independence or even start their research team, which can bring new research areas into Czech science. Therefore, the competition between applied projects is very high.
